What>>>>A 9-Week Spoken Word Journey for Muslim Women
This 9-week workshop is a sacred space for Muslim women to write, speak, and be heard. Whether you’re brand new to poetry or a seasoned writer, this program will guide you through the full arc of becoming a spoken word poet—rooted in confidence, craft, and community.
Led by internationally touring spoken word poet Amal Kassir, you’ll explore various spoken word forms, write and revise your own poems, learn how to script them for performance, and gain practical techniques for memorization, voice, and stage presence.
You’ll receive 1:1 coaching, grow in a tight-knit circle of sisters, and conclude with an in-person showcase where you’ll perform at least three original spoken word poems before a live audience.
What You’ll Get:
Amal Kassir is a Syrian-American poet, educator, and the Poet Laureate of Hillsborough, North Carolina. She has been a performance poet for over 15 years, beginning on a youth slam team that won the Brave New Voices international championship in 2012. Since then, her poetry has taken her to 13 countries—including the United Nations in Geneva—where she’s performed in refugee camps, youth prisons, and international stages alike.
She is the founder of House of Amal, a global writing community rooted in faith, introspection, and craft, where she teaches workshops, coaches spoken word artists, and designs transformative writing curriculum. Her debut book, Scud Missile Blues (2024), donates all proceeds to Syrian children affected by war.
Amal’s work is driven by a commitment to justice, service, and storytelling as a spiritual act. She lives on a farm in North Carolina with her husband and daughter, raising a garden, animals, and a family.
