About the workshop:

The workshop is aimed to develop an understanding of why and how to make a piece of art using ink as a medium. In this workshop we will be developing the concept behind the artwork first. We will then discuss methods and mediums to deliver the concept. The medium serves the concept and is always part of the message. We will also experiment with tools such as ink brushes, ink rollers and found objects, and what each tool can afford the artwork/ the message.

The workshop will highlight a specific example from the artist’s archival works with ink. Students will have the liberty to come up with their own concept, the limitation will be the use of ink as a medium. In 6 hours divided in 2 sessions students will walk away with a finished artwork ready to showcase. All material and tools will be provided by the artist.

Linda Abdullah is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, and curator. She majored in Visual Communications at the American University of Sharjah, UAE, and earned an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art Media and Design from OCAD University in Canada.

Her work acts as a commentary on social, cultural and political themes through critical graphic design praxis. Having lived most of her life in the Middle East before moving to Toronto (then Chicago,) has allowed her to view her own culture as an outsider for the first time. This cultural, intellectual and visual shift has engendered a series of experimental projects that deal with notions of identity, diaspora and displacement and allowed her to look at her being from the perspective of intellectual exile.
